Seeds are naturally full of wonderful minerals, vitamins, protein and Omega 3’s. Raw seeds also contain a natural chemical called phytic acid which is an enzyme inhibitor which makes accessing these nutrients and digesting the seeds very difficult.
In order to easily digest and absorb all of the natural goodness in these seeds, they need to be activated or ‘germinated’. We do this by soaking the seeds in purified water with pink salt. This breaks down the phytic acid and causes the seed to begin to germinate and grow! Just like a seed planted in soil! So when you eat an activated nut you are eating a living food, easy to break down and full of nutritious goodness that your body can easily absorb!
We then slow dehydrate them at very low temperatures to make them a light, crisp, beautifully crunchy and a completely vegan snack.
Organic pepitas provide an array of health benefits and contain goodness that our bodies need on a daily basis. Small and green in colour, pepitas come from the inside of the pumpkin seed and have a mild, nutty flavour. They are jam-packed with amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin K, protein, niacin, calcium, iron, and thiamine. The magnesium content in pepitas is known to assist in lowering blood pressure, which in turn may reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. Magnesium can also assist in preventing the airway spasm in asthma sufferers, as well as preventing the trigeminal blood vessel spasm that triggers migraines.
Pepitas are typically rather flat and asymmetrically oval, and light green in colour and may have a white outer hull. They are a perfect crunchy snack and can be eaten raw, cooked or roasted. Add pepitas into your baking, sprinkle on your favourite soup, salad, muesli or breakfast cereal for a delicious, nutritious snack.
